What is an Orthodontic Emergency?
An orthodontic emergency is a situation involving your braces, retainers, or other orthodontic appliances that requires prompt attention from an orthodontist to alleviate pain, prevent further damage, or ensure the timely progression of your treatment.
It’s not just about discomfort; it’s about addressing issues that could negatively impact your oral health or the long-term results of your orthodontic work. While some discomfort is normal during orthodontic treatment, a true emergency involves problems that can’t wait for a regularly scheduled appointment.

Want to Avoid Orthodontic Problems? Follow These Tips!
Many orthodontic emergencies can be avoided with a littlecare.
Here are tips to keep your treatment on track:
Food Choices
Avoid hard, crunchy, and sticky foods to prevent broken brackets and loose wires. Cut food into smaller pieces.
Retainer/Appliance Care
Store your retainer only in your mouth or its case. Never keep it loose. When eating out, always remove your retainer and store it in its case, not a napkin.
Headgear Safety
Always disconnect the strap before removing the facebow to prevent injury.
Following these guidelines minimizes avoidable emergencies and keeps your treatment smooth.
